Have been working under the assumption that John Suter Jr. was the oldest son of John Suter (unknown birth & death) and Mary McVay of NC. They were married 1814 in Barren Co., KY. Mary died ca. 1853 in Scott Co., IL while living with her youngest child, William Harl Suter. I have no proof that John Jr. and Wm. Harl were even brothers -- except for a verbal account of Wm. Harl's life that was given by one of his daughters when she was 90 years old. We think there were also seven girls in the family, one of whom was Jane, who married Thomas Lawson, son of Joshua Lawson (b. 1785). My Grandmother Ellen Jane Lawson was Thomas' daughter by his second wife, the widow Barbara Casper Myers of Germany. Another supposed sister was Sarah, who married Elisha Lawson (b. 1824 TN), also a son of Joshua Lawson. Elisha fathered two children by one of John Jr.'s daughters, Catherine in the mid 1860s.
