In the 1748 Lunenburg County, Virginia list of tithes John is shown with a son, William Lawson. Since William would have had to be at least 16 years old to appear in the list of tithes and assuming William was John's first child, then a guess for his birth date of 1713 or before can be made. Speculation: - There is no documentation as to when and where John Sr. died. From the TimeLine, it indicates he may have had at least 3 sons, William, John Jr. and Jonas. Using the List of Tithes for Lunenburg County, Virginia we can guess at their ages. William was born about 1732, John Jr. about 1733 and Jonas about 1735 or 1736. Where did the sons of John Lawson Sr. move to? There is a John and Jonas Lawson in Stokes County, North Carolina that would be about the correct age. There is one Lawson called John "Blackeye" Lawson who was living close to Jonas. As you will note in the 1763 Bedford County, VA Tithes, there is a John Lawson B.E. Does the B.E. stand for "Blackeye?" Also there are records that shows a William Lawson was living there during the same period as John "Blackeye" and Jonas Lawson. I tend to believe these three Lawsons may be John's sons but have no documentation to prove it. There is also a John and Jonas Lawson that lived in Pittsylvania County, VA, who later moved to Abbeville District, South Carolina that would also fit. William Lawson's age fits very closely to the William Lawson that is called the "Scottish Rebel". The Scottish Rebel William Lawson was born 26 June 1731. However, DNA testing has shown that he is not one of the Falling River Lawsons. There are other John, Jonas and William Lawsons that also could have been John Lawson Sr.'s sons, but my best guess is that it is the John "Blackeye" and Jonas Lawson of Stokes County.
